He was informed just around 2 weeks before the tourney, nearly cancelled his participation due to health concern but Syed Azizi later defied all odds to win the Kelantan Closed 2010 today in a very convincing way. He won all his games against few notable players. His most outstanding win was against FIDE rated player, Nik Ahmad Farouqi who finished second. His other victim also include Mohd Azizul Mat Daud, Bakri Jusoh and Wan Tarmizi Wan Sulaiman.
Before this tourney, I bet most of you hardly know Syed Azizi well except me..:). Syed Azizi has been my chess friend on and off the board for the past 7 years. He started playing chess since in secondary school representing MSSD Tumpat then. He also represent UiTM Kelantan in inter-UiTM tourney in 2001. Like most Kelantan based players, his tourney exposure was limited within local chess tourney. His only rated tourney was AMBank Challenge 2007, recorded 5.5 points from 11 rounds.
I am more than happy to write about him as much as Bakri Jusoh. I find this two players very inspiring and unique. Despite their lack of tournament exposure, their playing skill can be considered at par with most of active rated player. But what i really respect about these two guys is their humility and manners which some of the talented players lack.
Congratulation to Syed Azizi. We hope you can sustain your excellent form in NC2010. Full result of the tourney can be viewed at Caturkelate and Chessresult.com
Pics will be uploaded later.
